Sacred Heart Parish
Niagara Falls, ON

Our Story
The Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church was built over the course of 1923 and 1924. Before the construction of this house of worship, local Carmelite fathers gave mass in various places within the Village of Chippawa. Today, our church stands as a symbol of faith and community in the Niagara Falls area. Whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor, we invite you to become part of our vibrant faith community.

St. Joseph’s Church was established in 1849 in what was then known as the Township of Willoughby.

The modern day hamlet of Snyder, located on the Fort Erie-Niagara Falls border, has also been known as Black Creek and New Germany. The name Snyder came about when a post office was opened in the settlement and it was named Snyder after a Lutheran minister from that time.

Construction of the church begun in 1848 under the direction of the Jesuit Fathers. It was blessed on June 24, 1849, the Feast of John the Baptist, and was dedicated to St. Joseph. The Parish Hall was built in 1926.
